Briarcliffe College Baseball

Simply stated Briarcliffe College Baseball wants to THREEPEAT as USCAA National Champions. It will not be easy due to the loss of five starting position players, a starting pitcher and our closer.

The 2012 edition of the Briarcliffe Baseball Team must exemplify the time honored baseball adage that you win with pitching and defense. We will rely heavily on our four returning starting pitchers Vinny Aprano, Chris Brezinksi, Tommy Butler and Rich Ireland.

They did a great job last season and peaked in the playoffs as they pitched to a 1.96 ERA in the 2011 USCAA Small College World Series. The defense will be led by team captain DAVE DARCY who will move over from third to short. Captain DAVE HOSKIN will be the starting first baseman.

The addition of center fielder Joe Fiorino will help keep the team defense strong up the middle and provide us with an excellent leadoff batter. Offensively we will be counting heavily on another team captain, right fielder Sam Braverman, as well as left fielder Anthony Mele.

Pitching should be our strong suit with returning relievers Dan Harty, Ralph Perez and newcomers Mike Witteck, Mike Manning, sharing the mound with two way players Sam Braverman and Dave Darcy. We also expect positive contributions from returning catcher James Marte and transfer students Anthony Graziano, Joe Alessi, and Anthony Puma.

The team plays its home games at PAL COMPLEX in Holbrook, NY. The road schedule this year includes a four game series at the University of Dallas as well as trips to Virginia, Massachusetts and Ohio
