Briarcliffe College Lady Seahawks win Hesser College Tip-Off Championship

Women’s Basketball Team member Danielle Eagan earns MVP
Bethpage, NY... Nov. 12, 2009 -- Briarcliffe College Women’s Basketball 2009-2010 season opened with two victories in the Hesser College Tip-Off Classic November 7th and 8th in Manchester, New Hampshire over Fisher College and host, Hesser College.
The Lady Seahawks Danielle Eagan of Harlem, NY, was also named Most Valuable Player of the tournament and Tamika Pearson of Hempstead, NY, was named to the all-tournament team.
The opening round pitted Briarcliffe College against Fisher College from Boston,Massachusetts and went right down to the final buzzer with the Lady Seahawks prevailing 62-58 for their first victory of the year. Briarcliffe was lead by Danielle Eagan’s 20 point, 9 rebound effort and Nina Creese added 18 points and 9 rebounds. Feniere James dominated the boards with 11 rebounds and tremendous defense in the opening round victory.
In the championship game Tourney MVP Danielle Eagan had 21points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals while Feniere James added 15 rebounds and 3 block shots whileagain giving a blue chip effort on the defensive end of the court. All – Tournament selection Tamika Pearson had 17 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals to help capture the title.
Briarcliffe opens the season 2-0 and faces Hesser College on Saturday 11/14 at 2pm in their home opener at the Island Garden. The Lady Seahawks then will travel southto face two top ten nationally ranked teams the following weekend as they face USCAA powerhouses Apprentice and Southern Virginia in the Great Ships Classic. Briarcliffe College will face Southern Virginia on 11/20 at 6pm and host. Apprentice, on November 21 at 3pm.
