Grants & Scholarships

Many varied community and corporate scholarship programs are available to Briarcliffe students. These programs are often publicized in organizational newsletters and high school guidance offices.

Briarcliffe College provides students a limited amount of grant/scholarship funds each semester and each year. When funds are depleted, grant/scholarship availability no longer exists for the current award year. Furthermore, Briarcliffe College reserves the right to change eligibility criteria without prior notice.

The following are descriptions of grants and scholarships currently offered by Briarcliffe College:

Alumni Scholarship

Briarcliffe College is dedicated to providing scholarships to students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance and community service in their senior year of high school as well as demonstrate academic ability via the Accuplacer Exam

Scholarship Criteria – Applicant must:

  1. Be a first time full-time matriculated student enrolled in an Associate or Bachelor Degree program.
  2. Submit a Briarcliffe College Alumni Scholarship Application.
  3. Have taken all three parts of the official Accuplacer Exam (Arithmetic, Reading, and Writing) and rank within the top ten combined passing scores.
  4. Enroll and begin classes in either the July or September semester and have graduated high school within the same calendar year.
  5. If ranked within the top ten combined passing scores, successfully interview with the College Scholarship Selection Committee as well as provide:
    1. proof of community service
    2. high school transcript
    3. letter of reference
    4. resume

Award Amounts:

  1. Scholarships will be granted in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $8,000 per Academic year.
  2. The above scholarship funds may only be applied to tuition, fees, residence hall, books, and supplies after all federal, state and outside sponsored grants and scholarships are applied to tuition and fees.
  3. There will be no restrictions based upon age, race, creed, color, or sex.
  4. Scholarship funds are non-refundable to the student. If a student’s enrollment is canceled or the student withdraws or otherwise terminates his/her attendance at the school prior to the use of his/her entire scholarship, the funds will be returned to the scholarship fund.
  5. Scholarship winners must be continuously enrolled full-time and maintain a minimum of 3.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average to remain eligible for the scholarship.
  6. Briarcliffe College makes a limited amount of money available each semester and each year. When funds are depleted, scholarship availability no longer exists. Furthermore, Briarcliffe College reserves the right to change eligibility criteria without prior notice.

Upper Division Scholarship

Briarcliffe College is dedicated to providing scholarships to Briarcliffe Associate Degree graduates who continue to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree at Briarcliffe. To be considered for this scholarship, please complete a scholarship application and return it to the Briarcliffe College Financial Aid Office. Deadline for submission is the last day of the add/drop week.

Scholarship Criteria – Applicant must:
Be a Briarcliffe College Associate degree graduate who re-enrolls into a Bachelor Degree program within one semester of graduation.

Award Amounts:

  1. Scholarships will be granted in the amount of $1,000 per academic year.
  2. The above scholarship funds may only be applied to tuition, fees, residence hall, books, and supplies after all federal, state, and outside sponsored grants and scholarships are applied to tuition and fees.
  3. There will be no restrictions based upon age, race, creed, color, or sex.
  4. Scholarship funds are non-refundable to the student. If a student’s enrollment is canceled or the student withdraws or otherwise terminates his/her attendance at the school prior to the use of his/her entire scholarship, the funds will be returned to the scholarship fund.
  5. Scholarship recipients must be continuously enrolled full-time and maintain a minimum of 3.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average to remain eligible for the Scholarship.

Institutional Grant

The Institutional Grant Fund has been created to assist students who have exhausted all financing options and still demonstrate a need to cover their program charges. This assistance will be provided to reduce the financial burden of cost of education. To be considered for the Grant please complete a grant application and return it to the Financial Aid Office. Deadline for submission is the last day of add/drop week.

General Grant Rules:

  1. Students must have a valid ISIR on file.
  2. Students must maintain full time enrollment to retain the grant each semester.
  3. Students must exhaust all financing options. There are no exceptions.
  4. All decisions must be documented. For example, student applied for a private loan with co-borrower and was denied. Parent PLUS pre-approval shows a denial.
  5. The Institutional Grant may be offered up to a maximum of $5000 per academic year to students who have exhausted all required funding sources. The amount of the grant will vary depending upon the funding sources.
  6. Grant recipients must be continuously enrolled and maintain a minimum of 2.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average to remain eligible for the Grant.
  7. Disbursements for grant recipients will be during the last week of the second session of the semester.
  8. Grant money will be disbursed once per semester. If a student’s enrollment is canceled or the student withdraws, drops, or is dismissed, any future disbursements will be forfeited and any portion of the scholarship not yet applied to the student’s account will be returned to the scholarship fund.

Degree Completion Scholarship

Briarcliffe College is dedicated to assisting students with the cost of college who wish to complete their degree. To be considered for this scholarship the below criteria must be met by the deadline listed below. Please complete this scholarship application and attach the required supporting documentation and return it to the Briarcliffe College Student Finance Office. Deadline for submission & criteria to be met: 21 Days Prior to the Start of Classes

Scholarship Criteria – Applicant must:

  1. Be a first time full-time Briarcliffe student pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Briarcliffe College
    1. *Prior Briarcliffe graduates are ineligible for this scholarship and can apply for an Upper Division Scholarship or CEC Alumni Grant if applicable.
    2. ** This scholarship can be used in conjunction with the Transfer Scholarship only
  2. have earned at least 12 credits that are accepted by Briarcliffe College as transfer credits with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher
  3. Please note: An official transcript is required to ensure transfer credits can be evaluated. For the purpose of this scholarship, official transcript(s) must be received, reviewed and a minimum of 12 transfer credits must be accepted by the College within 21 days prior the start of classes.
  4. attach an unofficial copy of their college transcript
  5. Submit an essay explaining “Why it is Important to Obtain a College Degree”

Award Amounts:

  1. Tuition charges vary. Scholarships will be granted in an amount ranging up to $10,200 during the student’s final semester depending on the per semester tuition charge.
    1. This is a one-time payment only
  2. One recipient will be awarded each Fall & Spring semester start.
  3. The above scholarship funds may only be applied to tuition, fees, residence hall, books, and supplies after all federal, state and outside sponsored grants and scholarships are applied to tuition and fees.
  4. There will be no restrictions based upon age, race, creed, color or sex.
  5. Scholarship funds are non-refundable to the student. If a student’s enrollment is canceled or the student withdraws or otherwise terminates his/her attendance at the school prior to the use of his/her entire scholarship, the funds will be returned to the scholarship fund.
  6. Scholarship recipients must be continuously enrolled full-time and maintain satisfactory academic progress, as stated in the College catalog, to remain eligible for the scholarship.
  7. Disbursements for scholarship recipients are during the last week of the semester.
  8. Briarcliffe College makes a limited amount of money available each semester and each year. When funds are depleted, scholarship availability no longer exists.
  9. Furthermore, Briarcliffe College reserves the right to change eligibility criteria without prior notice.

Knapp-Swezey Foundation Scholarship

The Knapp-Swezey Foundation Scholarship Fund is dedicated to providing scholarships to both needy and academically gifted students who attend the Briarcliffe College Patchogue Campus.

Applicants must:

  1. Either be attending or enrolled in a regular program at Briarcliffe College Patchogue Campus and must reside within the town of Brookhaven.
  2. Be reviewed and students will be judged on the following criteria:
    1. Financial Need (to be determined by School).
    2. Freshman candidates will be assessed on the basis of need only.
    3. Continuing students will be assessed on the basis of need and Academics.
  3. Be continuously enrolled and maintain a minimum of 3.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average and must continue to satisfy the School’s stated Standards of Academic Progress as defined in the School’s catalog to remain eligible for the Scholarship. Scholarship funds will be disbursed over the award year by semester.

Award Amounts:

To be considered for a scholarship of $500 to $2,000 per academic award year from the Knapp- Swezey Foundation Scholarship Fund, please complete this Scholarship Application and return it to the Financial Aid Office at the Patchogue Campus.

Athletic Scholarships

A number of athletic scholarships, varying in amount, are made each year to students participating in sports, depending upon the funds available and the number of eligible candidates.

Applicants must:

  1. Be involved in an intercollegiate athletic program and meet all athletic eligibility requirements.
  2. Carry at least 12 credits per semester.
  3. Maintain a 2.0 average.
  4. File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  5. Apply for TAP and PELL each academic year, inasmuch as the athletic scholarship will serve to supplement all outside awards.
  6. Briarcliffe College makes a limited amount of money available each semester and each year. When funds are depleted, scholarship availability no longer exists. Furthermore, Briarcliffe College reserves the right to change eligibility criteria without prior notice.

Recommendations for these awards are made by the Director Associate of Athletics or his or her designee. Please contact the athletic department for additional requirements regarding athletic scholarships.

Disbursement of scholarship funds cannot exceed the direct cost of education. Scholarship money will be disbursed once per semester. If a student’s enrollment is canceled or the student withdraws, drops, or is dismissed, any future disbursements will be forfeited and any portion of the scholarship not yet applied to the student’s account will be returned to the scholarship fund.
