3 Benefits Of Working In The Healthcare Business

September 24, 2013 General 0 Comments

Benefits Of Working In HealthcareFew fields can offer as many possibilities as the healthcare industry. Some of these opportunities don’t involve direct patient care, so there are plenty of options for those who are interested in business, technology or administrative work.

Here, we’ve outlined some of the benefits of pursuing opportunities in the healthcare business. Read about what the industry can offer and decide if it’s the right field for you today.

1. Healthcare minus Blood and Needles

Healthcare administration professionals are essentially managers. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, some of their responsibilities are to:

  • Work to improve efficiency and quality in delivering healthcare services
  • Stay up-to-date on new laws and regulations so the facility can remain compliant
  • Manage facility finances, such as patient fees and billing
  • Create work schedules
  • Represent the facility at investor meetings or on governing boards
  • Organize and maintain records of the facility’s services
  • Communicate with members of the medical staff and department heads

Administrators are not directly involved in patient care. They do not take blood, give shots or even take a patient’s information while they are waiting for a doctor (those are the responsibilities of a Medical Assistant). Rather, administrators are responsible for planning, directing and coordinating. They make sure the healthcare facility is running efficiently and is well maintained.

This position allows people who are nervous about working with blood and needles to work in the healthcare industry. These types of fear often turn people away from the industry.

Now, you can work in a field where you influence people and impact their lives – without being fearful or uncomfortable.

2. A Growing Industry

You might have heard already that the healthcare industry is a growing industry. But did you know that the field is growing twice as fast as the national economy? Vivian Giang of Business Insider reported that it is this kind of growth that has allowed the industry to maintain a high demand for quality healthcare professionals.

It would be wrong to assume that this demand is only for professionals directly involved in patient care. Administrators are incredibly important. As hospitals and other healthcare facilities continue to expand, administrative professionals are needed to maintain the increase in business. By pursuing a business of healthcare opportunity, you can help these facilities expand.

3. Fast-paced and Intriguing

In general, the healthcare industry is fast-paced. New patients come in every day. Doctors, nurses and medical assistants often enjoy the intrigue of working on new cases.

But administrative professionals can enjoy the same intrigue as they maintain new cases and files. Administrators are also responsible for keeping up-to-date on developments in policy and technology. They are constantly learning new procedures and implementing them in their healthcare facility.
