Briarcliffe College 2013 Kidney Walk

Briarcliffe Patchogue Kidney WalkProfessor Tyrie’s Business Communications class hosted a walk for the National Kidney Foundation on April 21, 2013. The students used the skills and concepts they learned in class to organize the event. They wrote business letters and visited local businesses to obtain donations. Many of the business donors and their families also attended the walk.

In addition to charging a registration fee, the students sold walk t-shirts, bracelets, and food. The National Kidney Foundation will use the funds to promote awareness and help fight Kidney disease.

Musicians from as far as Pennsylvania joined the cause and provided entertainment at the event. Students from the Patchogue and Bethpage Campuses joined together to make the event a success. The softball, bowling, and lacrosse teams attended the event. In the spirit of celebrating the cause, they danced and played games during the walk. To help promote wellness, the dental hygienist students provided free blood pressure screening and sold toothbrushes during the event. The Communication students exceeded their goal by raising over $1,300. Congratulations on a job well done!
