Men’s Lacrosse beat Indiana Tech 19-12 on Friday. Matt Karp scored 7 goals, Jon Trama had 6, Tim Dillon and Jon Bonacore had 2 each and Eric Vitale and John Larkin had 1 each. Matthew Gierl Had 13 saves. On Saturday they played the 3rd seed in the country, Dayton University and lost 13-17. Matt Karp lead the team with 7 goals, John Larkin had 3 goals, Jon Bonacore 2 goals and Greg Difalco 1. Kevin Collica had 9 saves and Matthew Gierl had 8 saves. There next home game is this Thursday at 7pm verse Coast Guard Academy at the PAL Complex.
Briarcliffe Baseball swept a double-header from Queensboro Community College.
In game one, Vinny Aprano pitched 5 superb innings and BC took a 15-1 lead giving up just 3 hits. Catcher A.J. Puma continued his excellent overall play going 4 for 5 and set the tone for our defense in the top of the first inning with a strikeout/throw out double play. Dan Harty pitched 2 scoreless innings to complete BC’s excellent pitching performance.
In game two, two players were pivotal to our win as starting right fielder Sam Braverman pitched 5 and 1/3 innings and left with runners on 1st and 2nd base for reliever John Sicignano. John was able to keep the damage to one run and BC still led 3-2. BC then rallied for 5 runs to win 8-2. A.J. Puma’s bat remained red hot and an RBI single by starting pitcher/emergency 2nd baseman Rich Ireland completed the scoring for BC. There next home game is this Wednesday at 3:30 verse Kings College at the PAL Complex. They also play this Saturday at 2pm verse Southern ME at the PAL Complex.
The Briarcliffe softball team played a double header at Suffolk Community College this weekend. In game one, Jillian Mcgovern allowed just one run on Saturday, but Briarcliffe College Softball couldn't get the offense going in a 1-0 defeat to Suffolk Community College. Jillian handled Suffolk Community 's lineup with ease, racking up 10 strikeouts. She allowed just one earned run and only gave up four hits over 6 1/3 innings.
In game two the Bulldogs lost the second game in extra innings to Suffolk Community on a walk-off hit in the ninth, dropping a heartbreaker 7-6. Lyndsay Coppola went 4-4 on the day and Ivette Yi-Santiago had 6 strike outs.
They look to bounce back this weekend when they travel to Southern Virginia for a tournament.
