3 Skills Every Medical Sonographer Should HaveA medical sonographer conducts sonography procedures that can identify and diagnose certain conditions and illnesses in babies while they are still in the womb. These procedures are safer than radiologic procedures and are being used in physician’s offices, diagnostic laboratories and even non-traditional settings.

Are you interested in the diagnostic side of healthcare? Think a career in medical imaging might be right for you? Medical sonography can be the right field for you. Discover the skills every diagnostic medical sonographer should have, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

1. Technical Skills

As a diagnostic medical sonographer, you will be expected to use complex medical equipment on a regular basis. You must be comfortable working with technology. It is crucial that you understand how to operate, maintain and troubleshoot this equipment.

2. Interpersonal Skills

Depending on the circumstances, patients can be scared or uncomfortable. While performing the imaging tests, you must be personable. It is important that you know how to make your patients feel at ease.

3. Manual Dexterity Skills

You will use your hands constantly as a diagnostic medical sonographer. You must have good hand-eye coordination to operate and complete imaging tests successfully.
