Briarcliffe Women's Softball

The Briarcliffe Bulldogs enter the 2012 softball season with high expectations, based upon an incoming class of outstanding recruits to bolster a solid team of veteran players, including USCAA All American Shannon Dougherty and Senior Captains Domenica Marsala, Erin Breslin, and Alicia Sheron.

This year’s incoming talent includes Lyndsay Copolla (Lindenhurst, NY), Lashanna Garrison (Bellport, NY), Marissa Greico (Lindenhurst, NY), Amber Homefeld (Hampton Bays, NY), Bianca Iaquinta (Franklin Square, NY) and Raina Bunai (Shirley, NY).

The Briarcliffe outfield will be solid as Senior Alicia Sheron and Junior Jillian McGovern as well as sophomores Marfrelina Melendez and Sasha Santamaria return to take control.  Bianca Iaquinta, Lashanna Garrison, and Marissa Greico all bring with them the ability to play the outfield as well as other positions so look for a fierce battle to emerge for our outfielders.

On the infield, look for Senior Domenica Marsala to continue to lead the infield with her exceptional defensive skills as well as her offensive prowess and team first attitude. Catcher Shannon Dougherty has an outstanding arm and an excellent bat.  Sophomore First basemen Anna La Bochetta plays will continue to bring some power and consistency to the lineup.  Adding some maturity to the infield as well as the outfield will be Senior SS/UT Erin Breslin who brings a power bat to the lineup as well as outstanding defense and extensive knowledge of the game.  Melanie Delgiudice took some big steps last year and has really developed into an excellent defensive third basemen and backup catcher.  C/ 1B Amber Homfeld, SS/UT Lyndsay Coppola, SS/OF Lashanna Garrison and 3B/1B/UT Raina Bunai look to come and make a big impact on the infield as well, with all four players adding power and defense to the lineup.

Taking the mound for the Bulldogs will be the duo of standouts from last year’s team, Jillian McGoven from Island Trees HS, and Ivette Yi-Santiago from Paterson Catholic HS.   Jillian and Ivette bring not only exceptional pitching and ability, but playoff experience and incredible work ethic to the mound.

Head coach quote- “Our goal this year is the same goal we have had the last 4 years, to win the USCAA National Championship.  Every year we’ve gotten a little closer.  With the amount of talent we brought in this year if we do the simple things well I think it is entirely possible to achieve that goal.”
