Briarcliffe College Women’s Basketball Coaches
Head Coach – Jay Lynch
Jay Lynch will be entering his 4th season as the head coach at Briarcliffe College. During his tenure, the Lady Seahawks have been ranked in the top 15 nationwide in the USCAA Conference.
Coach Lynch inherited a team with only two returning players upon his arrival to the Bethpage campus and immediately signed one of the strongest recruiting classes In BC history. In fact, many feel that it was the finest recruiting year ever in the school's history. Signing NYC's leading scorer, Nina Creese from Wingate HS and NYC's #1 rebounder from Bryant HS, the Seahawks were off to a flying start in Coach Lynch's initial season. Earning a bid to the national championship was a long shot at best, but the young ladies received a bid and finished ranked #6 in the country upon their return from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Since then, strong recruiting and have yielded consistent success and national rankings for Coach Lynch and the Lady Seahawks.
As a player at NYC's CHSAA powerhouse Power Memorial, Lynch contributed to a team that won two New York City titles, including a season in which his team went undefeated. He earned his Criminal Justice degree while playing basketball at John Jay College, where his team was ranked the #1 defensive team in America for NCAA Division 3. That year, he was the defensive player of the year for the Bloodhounds.
Coaching at nationally ranked Tolentine HS in the Bronx, Coach Lynch won a NYC championship, capping off an undefeated season. He is one of only a handful of NYC High School coaches to have played on and coached an undefeated championship team in the tough catholic league.
Coach Lynch has been married to his wife Donna for 22 years and has two daughters, Katie and Kara. He will be returning this year with hopes of bringing a national championship back to Bethpage.
