Associate in Applied Science Degree in Paralegal Studies

The Associate in Applied Science degree in Paralegal Studies program is designed for those students interested in obtaining careers as paraprofessionals in the legal industry. Through a core of general and specialized coursework, the degree develops in students the knowledge, skills and competencies to gain entry into the vital and expanding field of the paralegal.

Students in this curriculum demonstrate knowledge of the workings of the judicial system including fundamental procedures and practices such as civil, criminal, corporate, commercial and family law. Using demonstrated legal research and writing, students will prepare and present a special research project as well as display the skills and disposition to compare, contrast and discuss the New York State Penal Law and the Model Penal Code.

Accreditation

Institutional Accreditation: Briarcliffe College is accredited by The Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The commission on Higher Education is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Commission on Higher Education Accreditation.

Programmatic Accreditation: The Paralegal Studies program is not programmatically accredited.

The New York State Board of Regents also authorizes Briarcliffe to offer Diploma, Associate degree and Bachelor's degree programs.
