Bachelor of Fine Arts in Advertising and Design Communications

If you’re a creative person and would like to combine your artistic talent with business smarts, this bachelor’s degree program could be just what you’re looking for. While offering a strong foundation in the technical and conceptual skills of graphic design, it doesn’t stop there. In order to prepare you for a broad range of career opportunities, it also helps you develop your understanding of business and advertising, including branding, copywriting, negotiation, and presentation.

While Briarcliffe offers separate programs in Graphic Design and in Marketing, both are part of Advertising and Design Communications. This program includes studio and lab courses where you can learn design fundamentals, visual communication skills, and industry-standard graphic design programs – as well as focus on business management, marketing, public relations, and business communication, including public speaking. Such overall perspective is valuable in the workplace, where creative professionals collaborate with marketing and business colleagues and clients to achieve marketing and business objectives.

We also offer many opportunities for education beyond the classroom, which can broaden your understanding of the business of creativity. These include the graphic design club, field trips to museums and galleries in New York and Long Island, and opportunities to exhibit your work around campus, In addition, we offer you exposure to industry professionals through “The Living Classroom”, where contemporary artists display their work and conduct hands-on workshops in the college art gallery, and “Design Expo”, where in your senior year, you can have your portfolio critiqued by working professionals.
