Associates Degree in Criminal Justice

The Associate in Science degree in Criminal Justice is designed to develop in students the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to gain entry into the exciting field of criminal justice. It provides students with a broad introduction to the field and enables them to pursue more advanced study at the bachelor level.

Students enrolled in the criminal justice program demonstrate knowledge of the American criminal justice system including the major components of the juvenile justice system, should be knowledgeable of the punishment phase of the system, current issues that face American correctional institutions, and be familiar with the legal environment and legal principles in which criminal justice professionals function. In addition, students gain the essential skills for finding employment in the field of Criminal Justice, both in the public and private sectors.


Institutional Accreditation: Briarcliffe College is accredited by The Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The commission on Higher Education is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Commission on Higher Education Accreditation.

Programmatic Accreditation: The Criminal Justice program is not programmatically accredited.

The New York State Board of Regents also authorizes Briarcliffe to offer Diploma, Associate degree and Bachelor's degree programs.
