Associate in Applied Science in Accounting

The Associate in Applied Science Degree in Accounting is a two-year degree that is designed to help prepare students for entry-level employment in the field of accounting. The degree also provides students with the basic courses needed to continue on to a bachelor degree program in accounting.

In this program, students become knowledgeable of accounting principles, including the skills and competencies necessary to prepare, maintain, and analyze journals, general ledgers, payroll taxes and financial statements. Other courses focus on the maintenance of files in computerized accounting software systems, business law and the regulatory parameters that businesses confront in their day-to-day operations, and instruction to conduct an analysis of individual firms and markets.


Institutional Accreditation: Briarcliffe College is accredited by The Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The commission on Higher Education is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Commission on Higher Education Accreditation.

Programmatic Accreditation: The Accounting program is not programmatically accredited.

The New York State Board of Regents also authorizes Briarcliffe to offer Diploma, Associate degree and Bachelor's degree programs.
