September 8, 2009
Bethpage, N.Y.,( Sept. 8, 2009) -- A supporter of the arts on Long Island, Briarcliffe College is pleased to announce that it will host the Patchogue Arts Biennial – Long Island’s largest art exhibit of its kind – at the 12,000 sq. ft. Exhibit Hall on its Patchogue campus, located at 225 W. Main Street, from Sat., Oct. 3, through Sat., Oct. 24. The mission of the Patchogue Arts Biennial is to expand the Long Island communities’ view of the trends, function and purpose of art in the 21st century.
Notes Briarcliffe College president Dr. George Santiago, Jr., "Briarcliffe College is proud to lend its support to the upcoming Patchogue Arts Biennial. An exhibition of so many varied works of fine art is sure to attract Long Islanders from a variety of communities in both Nassau and Suffolk. It will also serve as a wonderful source of inspiration for our photography and graphic arts students. I applaud the Patchogue Arts Council for bringing such fine visual art to the Village of Patchogue."
Inspired by the famous New York Armory show of 1913 that brought modern art to the United States, the three-week art exhibit will feature a broad range of contemporary artists from Long Island ranging in age from 25 to 80, drawing on artists from various stages in their careers. The Patchogue Arts Biennial was curated by a committee of Patchogue Arts Council members from both the professional and academic worlds and will display drawings and paintings, photography and sculpture, as well as works of art incorporating light and sound.
The exhibition’s opening event on Sat., Oct. 3, will feature a one-day sculpture garden on the perimeter of the campus of Briarcliffe College, as well as an artist reception from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. For the duration of the festival, the exhibit will be open Mondays through Saturdays from noon to 7 p.m. and on Sundays from noon through 4 p.m. Morning viewings are by appointment. The event is free of charge to the public. To view event website, visit www.PatchogueArtsBiennial.com.
