Briarcliffe College Art Gallery Presents: A Living Classroom Series - “Let Me Sleep On It”

November 30, 2010

Public is invited to reception and talk by guest artist Anthony Ingrisano on December 15

BETHPAGE, N.Y. (November 29, 2010) -- The Briarcliffe College series, “A Living Classroom,” introduces students to the artistic process and professional exhibition setting.  In this context, Gallery Director Karyn Cernera Bush and Chief Curator Beth Giacummo organized a hands-on series of workshops for Graphic Design students with guest artist Anthony Ingrisano entitled “Let Me Sleep On It.”  The workshops will be held in tandem with a public exhibition of his drawings November 8 through December 17.  The public is invited to attend an open reception and talk by the artist on Wednesday, December 15 at the Briarcliffe College Art Gallery from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

“The Living Classroom program is an effort to expand students understanding of fine art and studio practice,” said Cernera Bush. “Students will work with Ingrisano, learn about his inspirations and techniques, culminating with the exhibition of their own artwork alongside his for the December 15 reception.”

According to Briarcliffe College President Dr. George Santiago, “A Living Classroom offers a unique, real world experience for students and an opportunity to invite the public to our campus to preview the work of both established and budding artists.”

A Brooklyn-based artist, Ingrisano has been the solo or featured artist in multiple exhibitions along the Northeast.  He earned his Master’s with Honors from Pratt Institute and is a teacher in New York City public schools with a special interest in the therapeutic benefits of producing art among those with autism.

In describing his approach to drawing, Anthony Ingrisano writes:  “I address the increasing incongruities in the ways humans look at, deal with, and exist within our surroundings.  Between the natural world and our actions, there is a responsibility to protect our environment and a world we’re dependent upon for survival.”
