Briarcliffe College to Launch B.S. Degree in Healthcare Administration

New healthcare program begins January 2011 at Bethpage and Patchogue, NY locations

Bethpage, NY, November 17, 2010 – The New York State Board of Regents has approved Briarcliffe College to introduce a Bachelor of Science degree in Healthcare Administration. Applications for enrollment are now being accepted.

“We are gratified by the Regents’ authorization and eager to begin preparing students to enter fields in health care services,” said Briarcliffe College President Dr. George Santiago, Jr.  “It has been widely reported that health care offers growing job prospects, and with this new B.S. degree program, Briarcliffe College continues to meet its mission to provide relevant career education.”

The new program in Healthcare Administration will focus upon the managerial aspects of health services organizations.  The curriculum will cover Healthcare Management, Healthcare Finance, Healthcare Law, Healthcare Marketing, Contemporary Issues in Healthcare, Computer Applications for Healthcare Managers, Project Management in Healthcare, and Ethical Issues in Healthcare. It will consist of a 66-credit core in Liberal Arts and Sciences/General Education, a 48-credit core in the Healthcare Administration content area, and 6 credits of general electives.

“Briarcliffe College welcomes to the program first-time freshmen, transfer students, and healthcare professionals who have already received specialized training in various allied health fields,” said Dr. David M. Cohen, J.D., Provost of Briarcliffe College.  “Our goal is to help students gain access to the meaningful career opportunities in health care and to help health care professionals receive the additional educational training they need to advance in the managerial ranks.”
