Melville, NY, resident David M. Cohen assumes responsibilities at Briarcliffe College

BETHPAGE, NY – (February 18, 2010) Briarcliffe College President Dr. George Santiago, Jr. has announced the appointment of David M. Cohen, J.D., as provost of the career education institution. Provost Cohen brings more than two decades of academic leadership experience to Briarcliffe College.

"I am delighted to be joining the Briarcliffe College community," said Dr. Cohen, a native Long Islander. "I have witnessed the growth and development of the college all my life. I am fortunate to be joining an exceptional team of men and women charged with advancing the mission and goals of the institution."

In his capacity as provost, Dr. Cohen is responsible for all of Briarcliffe’s educational programs — at the associate and the baccalaureate degree levels. Briarcliffe College offers popular programs online and at three locations in Bethpage, Patchogue, and Queens, including the following fields: Accounting, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Graphic Design, Networking and Computer Technology, and Paralegal Studies. He will also assume responsibility for leading the institution’s accreditation initiatives.

Prior to joining Briarcliffe College, Dr. Cohen served as Vice President/Provost at Five Towns College (Dix Hills, NY) where he also served as Chief Academic Officer. During his tenure, he oversaw the school’s accreditation activities, registered new programs and conducted reviews of doctoral programs.

A licensed attorney, Provost Cohen is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey, and Florida. He is a member of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and currently serves as a member and secretary of the Suffolk County Film Commission. Cohen is a graduate of New York Law School.
